After a short welcome, Dr. William Rankin will present the EdTechRVA 2017 Keynote:

Learning outside the box: Growing an ecosystem for learning

For more than a century, we’ve imagined future learning spaces transformed by marvelous new technologies, yet those visions have rarely lived up to their hype or given teachers the tools we really need. Often, such approaches have failed to address either the true nature of learning or the real impact of technological change. Beginning with an exploration of the characteristics of successful ecosystems, this presentation will propose a multidimensional approach to learning that ties content inextricably to meaningful contexts and collaborative communities. Building from existing and emerging learning paradigms and practices, this talk will offer a pragmatic means for engaging learners supported richly by technology and finally offering what those earlier visions of the future promised: the chance to change the world.
